Benefits 

When you become an IPD Officer, you receive:
 

  • A starting salary of $53,123 ($25.54/ hour) with the potential to earn a base pay of $90,537 ($43.52) (at the rank of Police Officer).

  • For POST Certified Officers with 4+ years full time law enforcement experience, IPD offers a starting salary of  $28.41/hr.

  • For POST Certified Officers with 8+ years full time law enforcement experience, IPD offers a starting salary of $31.61/hr.

  • If you are not POST Certified when you are hired, you will be expected to complete a 28-week police academy paid for by the police department.  A salary of ($22.99/hour) and benefits is offered from the first day of training.

  • A comprehensive benefit package which includes health and dental insurance, retirement program through LAGERS, in addition to a competitive salary range with an annual increase.

  • The opportunity to earn numerous hours of compensation, overtime and extra duty.

  • 12 paid holidays and 80 hours of vacation a year (5+ years/120 hours; 10+ years/160 hours; 15+ years/200 hours)​

If you are not POST Certified when you are hired, you will be expected to complete a 28-week police academy paid for by the police department. Applicants accepted into the academy begin earning salary ($22.10/hour) and benefits from the first day.

Following your commission and at least two years in the patrol division, officers can apply for career

  • Criminal Investigations Unit

    • Person Crimes Squad, Sex Crime/Child Abuse Squad, Gun Squad, Property Crimes Squad

  • Selective Enforcement Unit (Motorcycles)

  • Accident Investigation Unit

  • Street Crimes Unit

  • Drug Enforcement Unit

  • Swat (full and part-time)

  • K-9 Unit

  • Community Services Officers

  • School Resource Officers (SRO)

  • Independence Center Officers

  • Hawthorne Place Apartments Officers

  • Public Information Officer

  • Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Task Force

  • Jackson County Drug Task Force

  • Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Task Force

  • Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Officer
